DOSSIER: ARQUITECTURA MODERNA EN EL SALVADOR: Presentación del dossier

Abstract : In a world in crisis in the first half of the 20th century, modernity emerges as a proclamation about progress and development, in this context architecture accompanies as the spatial expression of that development. El Salvador, like the whole world, lives its own modernity, however it is poorly documented and disclosed. The material presented in this dossier tries to partially cover this gap. Starting from an arduous work of field documentation, interviews, preparation of plans and maps, photographic documentation, carried out between 2008 and 2012, the team of researchers from the José Siméon Cañas Central American University, coordinated by Professor Sandra Gutiérrez Poizat, documents more than 500 architecture, urban planning and landscape projects. The articles in the dossier analyze this material and cover topics as varied as infrastructure, housing and art, among others.
