Abstract : Titanium oxidation in a water vapour atmosphere has been investigated in the temperature range 750-1000°C by means of thermogravimetry and microscopic observations. Differences in the oxidation behaviour of wires and plates can be related to the level of the growth stresses arising from oxidation. The relaxation of these stresses has been followed and a plasticity limit of the oxide scale pointed out for temperatures around 900°C.
