Modification induces by milling on liquid phase sintering.

Abstract : The powders of a W-based alloy have been milled to improve the sintering and increase the density. Either the only second phase NiFeCo has been milled or both the second phase and tungsten. In the same sintering conditions, treated powders show a higher densification in comparison with the untreated powders. To understand this change of behaviour, experiments are carried out at temperatures lower and higher than liquid phase formation. At these temperatures, densities of treated powders are highest. Based on scanning electron microscopy observations, EDS measurements, X-Ray diffraction pattern investigations, we study the influence of the milling on the powders and on the densification before and after the liquid formation.
